The Women’s Club of Brook Park Manor was formed in 1979 as a social organization to meet the needs of the women in the neighborhood. It is a terrific opportunity to meet many of your neighbors.
We sponsor three holiday-related activities per year for the children. The first is the Halloween Parade, including fire trucks and the North Allegheny High School Marching Band. The parade is topped off with cookies, drinks and special treats. The second activity is a private visit to your home by Santa. Finally, we hold an Easter Egg Hunt, complete with a visit from the Easter Bunny.
Many interest groups have been formed by the Women’s Club in order to meet people and share ideas with others who have the same interests.
Some of the interest groups include:
BUNCO: We currently have several groups who meet once a month. Bunco is a dice game that is fun, but not complicated, and a great way to meet your neighbors. You can get on the list to become a regular, or if your schedule is too hectic, you can sign up to act as a substitute. The cost is $6 per month to play, which is used for prizes. If you become a “regular” you are asked to host or co-host once per year.
CREATIVE COOKING: This group meets once a month to share new techniques and exchange new recipes or old favorites. Traditionally, the group is broken into smaller groups which are responsible for planning and serving a theme menu to the rest of the group. The group occasionally has someone demonstrate a special technique or travels to a private establishment for a lesson. The Creative Cooking group regularly has progressive dinners complete with husbands.
6-PACK & A SNACK: This group meets several times a year. The men are also included in this group. Parties are BYOB and a snack to share.
KID’S CONNECTION GROUP: This group meets once a month at volunteers home and allows for children play time and parental interaction.
Other neighborhood events include an annual fall/winter Bonfire, outdoor Movie Nights at the Pool, a neighbohood Golf Outing, Men’s Night, Block Parties, and so on. The men of Brook Park have an informal Monday Night Football gathering at the Rochester Inn.
